Lake Hartwell

Built by the USA Corps of Engineers on the Savannah River between 1955 & 1963 Hartwell impounds nearly 56,000 acres of water. The 962 mile shoreline extends 45 miles up the Seneca River and 49 miles up the Tugaloo.

Fishing is allowed on Hartwell or its tributaries with either a Georgia or South Carolina license.
Nearly 100 boat launching ramps and numerous recreation areas, fishing piers, and bank fishing areas provide ample fishing opportunities.

Public Fishing piers are located at:
Singing Pines Recreation Area
Stephens County Recreation Area
Georgia River Recreation Area
Darwin H. Wright Park
Tugaloo State Park

Fish species in Hartwell Lake include largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, striped bass and hybrid bass.

In 2002 Lake Hartwell yielded the South Carolina state record 59-1/2# Stripped Bass.

Hartwell is the site of the 2008 Bassmaster Classic as well as numerous other Bass and Crappie tournaments throughout the year.
